Meet Brian Carey

"You put trust in the people who you're working with you give them the ability to make decisions and to learn in their own ways and we live up to that every day and what we promise we deliver on."

Brian Carey, MCAP’s CFO

Learn more about Brian

Over the past 14 years, Brian Carey has grown alongside MCAP. Since joining the team in 2007, he has held different roles within Finance, Treasury, and the middle office group. In his current position as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at MCAP, he works closely with his team, members of the executive team, and the board of directors to ensure MCAP’s success —and Blue Culture is foundational to that success.

I’m passionate about the company itself but also about the people I work with.

Brian’s passion for MCAP runs deep, rivaled only by his passion for those he works with. “We have put in a lot of time collectively, working with others to help the company grow and prosper and I’m happy to see it’s done well,” he explains. “I’m passionate about the company itself but I’m also passionate about the people I work with. Whether it’s mentoring them or hearing their ideas and working with them on how to make the business better.”

We bring Blue Culture to life indirectly and we do that by supporting all lines of business as best we can.

The work the Finance team does impacts all aspects of MCAP’s work. As Brian describes, “we bring Blue Culture to life indirectly and we do that by supporting all lines of business as best we can. We’re there to support them, to get them answers quickly, and help them understand various business metrics so that they can make the best decisions possible not only for MCAP but for our customers as well.”

The work can be time-intensive and challenging but it’s exciting because you’re learning and working with your team to solve issues.

From working on corporate transactions to raising funds from investors, Brian and his team play a key role in making impactful change at MCAP. According to Brian, “the work can be time-intensive and challenging but it’s exciting because you’re learning on each of these transactions and working with your team to solve issues that come up. It’s almost like putting a puzzle together; you’ve got to stick with it and keep plugging along.”

It’s by working together that we optimize the results we can get versus working individually. We gain more by working together.

As a leader, Brian understands the value of investing in his team, and in cultivating a positive and open work environment where each team member is welcome to provide their input. “I truly believe we are a team and that everyone has unique strengths they bring to the team,” he says. “It’s by working together that we optimize the results we get versus working individually. We gain more by working together.”

It’s important to not take things for granted and to understand there are no shortcuts to hard work.

Whether it’s inside workplace or outside the workplace, Brian has learned that there’s no getting around hard work — it’s one of the things he attributes for his success. As he explains, “generally, I’ve had success in my career when I’ve been prepared. It’s important to not take things for granted and to understand there are no shortcuts to hard work. And it’s important to take pride in your work.”

Blue Culture is creating an environment at MCAP where we can ultimately get the best products for our customers.

Blue Culture is at the core of how we do what we do, and each interaction, big or small, allows us to demonstrate exactly what Blue Culture means. “I think Blue Culture is creating an environment at MCAP where we can ultimately get the best products for our customers and make the experience in dealing with MCAP a good one,” says Brian. “And when challenges arise, it’s about turning things around to give our customers a positive experience and ultimately a product that’s valuable to them.”
